The Pink Camel project is executed by Air Products Nederland B.V., an industrial gases company with expertise in hydrogen production, liquefaction, and distribution. Active across the hydrogen value chain, the company supports the development of infrastructure for transport applications. Within the IPCEI Hy2Move framework, the project contributes to the broader European hydrogen ecosystem through knowledge sharing and collaboration with other stakeholders.

The main objective of the project is to deliver RFNBO‑compliant hydrogen for transport applications by developing and deploying an integrated hydrogen production and supply solution based on ammonia‑to‑hydrogen conversion and hydrogen liquefaction.  Hydrogen would be conditioned to the required purity and pressure for use in transport applications, while liquefaction enables efficient storage and distribution to refueling infrastructure. The project also aims to support the development of hydrogen supply chains for mobility and other transport-related uses, in line with market requirements.

The hydrogen facility will be located in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, which is a key energy hub for Europe’s hydrogen economy. The project began in 2023, with development and engineering activities marking the start of a phased implementation period expected to run over seven years. It includes a large-scale hydrogen liquefaction facility, currently under construction, alongside the planned conversion of imported ammonia into hydrogen and the distribution of hydrogen tailored to mobility needs. The liquefaction facility is expected to become a major contributor to Europe’s liquid hydrogen supply once operational in 2027.
